Palma Chieftains easily dispatched Padres on Saturday, 9-1.
Palma got on the board in the first inning after
Alan Gonzalez singled, scoring two runs.
Palma added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Manny Dorantes singled down the left field line,
Johnny Carnazzo singled down the right field line, Rocco Razzeca grounded into a fielder's choice, and Gonzalez walked, each scoring one run.
Dorantes earned the win for the Chieftains. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking four. Lucas Rocha took the loss for Carmel. The southpaw went three innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking three.
Jackson Harris appeared in relief for the Chieftains.
Razzeca provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Palma Varsity Chieftains with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Palma Varsity Chieftains turned one double play in the game.
The win gives Palma a one game lead over Carmel in the Gabilan division and the all important tie breaker as they took two of three from the Padres during the season series.
