Palma School Honors Excellence at Spring Sports Awards Ceremony

Principal Sullivan, Allison Guerra, Weldon Chisum, President Dalman

Palma School proudly celebrated its spring sports programs and honored the remarkable achievements of its student-athletes during the annual Spring Athletics Awards Ceremony. The evening culminated in the presentation of two of Palma's most prestigious honors: the W.H. "Hank" Muller Award for Outstanding Scholar-Athlete and the Br. M.L. Crumlish Award for Outstanding Senior Athlete.

W.H. "Hank" Muller Award – Outstanding Scholar-Athlete

This award is presented each year to the top scholar-athlete in the senior class, recognizing a student who has excelled in the classroom while also competing at the highest levels of athletics. Recipients must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher. Winners are selected by a committee chaired by the Athletic Director and approved by the Executive Committee and School President.

This year's male recipient is Isaiah Rangel.
Isaiah has set the gold standard for what it means to be a scholar-athlete. Carrying a 4.5 GPA and earning recognition as a CCS Scholar-Athlete nominee, he has balanced academic excellence with an extraordinary athletic resume. A four-year varsity wrestler, Isaiah is a three-time league champion, three-time CCS medalist, CCS runner-up, and this year's CCS Champion in the 165-pound division. He also competed at the California State Championships three times, earning a state medal with an 8th-place finish. His passion, discipline, and leadership are an inspiration to the Palma community.

The female recipient is Elizabeth "Ellie" Fuqua.
Ellie exemplifies dedication and leadership both in and out of competition. With a 4.15 GPA, she too was named a CCS Scholar-Athlete nominee. A two-sport standout, Ellie led Palma's girls tennis team to an undefeated season and the first-ever girls team championship in school history. She was crowned Cypress Division Singles Champion, capping off a dominant fall season. In the winter, she brought her energy to the soccer field, earning recognition on the All-League Sportsmanship Team for her selfless play and positive impact.

Br. M.L. Crumlish Award – Outstanding Senior Athlete

This prestigious award is presented annually to the senior athlete who not only excels in athletics but also demonstrates outstanding moral character. Recipients are chosen through a rigorous selection process involving the Athletic Director and Palma's Executive Committee.

This year's male recipient is Weldon Chisum.
A gifted two-sport athlete, Weldon has had a stellar career in football and track & field. On the football field, he was a cornerstone of Palma's success, serving as a lockdown defensive back and an explosive wide receiver, helping lead the Chieftains to the CCS Championship game.
In track & field, Weldon has continued to shine. He is part of the fastest 4x100 relay team in school history and shares the school record in the 100 meters with a time of 10.74 seconds. He captured PCAL titles in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 relay, and continues his season at the CCS Finals. His humility, leadership, and drive are hallmarks of his legacy.

The female recipient is Allison "Alley" Guerra.
Alley made Palma history as the quarterback of the school's inaugural flag football team, earning 1st Team All-League and being named League Offensive MVP after throwing for 3,236 yards and 42 touchdowns. Her athletic talents extended throughout the year:

Winter: 2nd Team All-League in Soccer, all while competing in wrestling.

Spring: Excelled in track, running the 100m, 300m hurdles, and anchoring the PCAL Champion and Palma record-holding 4x100 relay team, which advanced to CCS.

Alley's commitment, versatility, and relentless work ethic are an example of what it means to be a Chieftain.

A Celebration of All Spring Sports

The ceremony also served as a moment to recognize the achievements of all spring sports programs, including baseball, softball, track & field, swimming, boys volleyball, golf, lacrosse, tennis, and cheer. Coaches and student-athletes were acknowledged for their seasons, CCS qualifications, and team milestones. Special highlights included league championships, CCS Scholastic Team honors, personal bests, and historic firsts across several programs.

Palma Athletics is proud of the leadership, character, and spirit our student-athletes bring to every season. We congratulate all award recipients and teams on a memorable spring, and we look forward to continued success in the year ahead.
