In a hard-fought showdown, Palma's girls flag football team came up just short against King City, falling 40-27 in a thrilling back-and-forth contest. The game was intense from start to finish, with Palma making crucial plays to stay within striking distance but ultimately struggling to make the key defensive stops they needed as King City's offense proved relentless.
Quarterback Allison Guerra led the charge for Palma's offense, completing an impressive 29 of 35 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns. Guerra's poise under pressure kept Palma in the game, and her defensive contributions also shone through with three flag pulls, an interception, and a pass deflection. Despite her efforts, King City's offense managed to hold onto the lead, as they answered every Palma score to keep a comfortable cushion.
Palma's receiving corps came alive as well, with Addy Jefferson making 11 catches for 75 yards, consistently moving the chains. Elsie Sargenti hauled in five receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while also making three critical pass deflections on defense. Carolina Lorca set a school record for flag pulls in a single game, racking up 12 and contributing three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.
The comeback efforts kept Palma close, especially as they closed the gap to within a touchdown on three separate occasions. Jordyn made a key catch for a 10-yard touchdown, adding to Palma's persistent scoring. Natalia A contributed with two receptions for 36 yards, stretching the field, while Emma Munoz notched five flag pulls and a pass breakup to bolster the defense. Lyric and Aiylee each added four flag pulls as well, showcasing Palma's determined defensive stand.
Despite Palma's tenacity and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, King City's offense ultimately managed to stay one step ahead. They will finish thier season at a CCS Jamboree hosted by the San Francisco 49ers tomorrow at St. Francis High school in Mnt. View. First game at 8am.
