Monterey, CA — Palma Girls Soccer rallied for a 3-1 win over Santa Catalina on Monday, coming from behind to secure the victory.
Â
Santa Catalina took an early 1-0 lead, but Ellie Faqua's goal just before halftime leveled the score. In the second half, Molly Nino put Palma ahead with a well-placed finish off a cross from Allison Guerra. The game's turning point came when goalkeeper Paizlee Mitzner made a crucial penalty kick save, immediately launching a counterattack that led to Guerra's game-sealing goal.
Â
Mitzner, who registered 12 saves, was named Player of the Game. Guerra also contributed with an assist and goal, while Fuqua and Nino each found the net. Midfielders Gianna Gastello, Yasmin Alvarado, and Elsie Sargenti played key roles in maintaining the lead.
Â
With the win, Palma moves to 5-4-1 in league and looks ahead to their home game against Pacific Grove on Wednesday. Palma's final home game will be their Senior Night on Tuesday, February 11th.
