Scattini Tournament Wrap-Up: Final Day Highlights

The Luis & Lucille Scattini Memorial Tournament concluded with a thrilling day of basketball action, showcasing the competitive spirit and talent of all participating teams.

7th Place Game: Salinas 69, Seaside 51

Salinas High secured a convincing victory over Seaside, controlling the game with strong performances across all quarters. Salinas led by three after the first quarter and steadily widened the gap, finishing with a 69-51 triumph. Lawrence Zenk powered the Salinas offense with 18 points, while Julius Thorp led Seaside with 17 points in a commendable effort.

Consolation Championship: Soquel 50, Enterprise 39

Soquel staged a second-half comeback to claim the Consolation Championship, defeating Enterprise 50-39. Trailing 18-14 at halftime, Soquel dominated the third quarter, outscoring Enterprise 23-12 to take control of the game. Nico Ramirez led all scorers with 16 points for Soquel, while Alijah Collins contributed 8 points for Enterprise.

Third Place Game: Dougherty Valley 64, Independence 42

Dougherty Valley dominated from the opening tip, cruising past Independence with a commanding 64-42 victory. Dougherty Valley's Roshad Cotton and Xayre Mojadidi led the team with 11 points each. Independence's Elijah Thorn showed impressive range, scoring 16 points, with 12 coming from beyond the arc.

Championship Game: Marina 57, Palma 42

The Championship Game of the Luis & Lucille Scattini Memorial Tournament featured an intense showdown between Marina (Huntington Beach) and the host team, Palma. Marina ultimately claimed the title with a 57-42 victory, powered by strong defensive pressure and timely scoring.

The game started with both teams trading baskets in an evenly matched first quarter, which ended tied at 16 points apiece. Marina began to find their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Palma 12-4 to take a 28-20 lead into halftime. Palma struggled to break through Marina's defense, while Marina's MVP Dylan Gomez lead all scores with 17 points and All-Tournament selections Luke Pratali (7 points) and Barak Simon (12 points) controlled the pace of the game.

In the third quarter, Marina extended their lead to 46-35, showing their versatility on offense with balanced scoring and precision ball movement. Palma's Soren Roberts and Tai Suich worked tirelessly to keep the Chieftains within striking distance, with Suich leading the charge offensively with 16 points and Roberts (15 points) contributing key plays. Despite their efforts, Marina's depth and discipline proved too much for Palma to overcome.

As the final buzzer sounded, Marina celebrated their 57-42 victory.
