In a thrilling CCS Division 2 playoff opener at historic Kezar Stadium, Palma rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Sacred Heart Cathedral 28-19. The victory propels Palma into the next round, showcasing their resilience and explosive play making ability.
Sacred Heart dominated time of possession in the first half, building a 19-14 lead at the break. However, the Chieftains came out swinging in the second half. On the opening drive, Palma executed a perfectly timed trick play: quarterback Pat Driscoll pitched to Dean Silacci, who launched a 57-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Williams, electrifying the Palma sideline and reclaiming the lead at 21-19.
Eli Dukes sealed the game for Palma with a powerful 11-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, giving the Chieftains a lead they would not relinquish. Dukes was a force all night, finishing with 165 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
Driscoll contributed through the air, completing 3 of 6 passes for 117 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown strike to Lucas Milburn in the first half. Silacci added to the passing totals with his trick-play touchdown, bringing Palma's aerial attack to 174 yards on just seven attempts.
Palma's offense was remarkably efficient, racking up 343 total yards on only 32 plays. Their defense stepped up in the second half, shutting out Sacred Heart Cathedral and giving their offense the opportunity to shine.
With the win, Palma advances in the playoffs and looks to carry their momentum into the next round when they take on Menlo School on Saturday at 1pm.
