The Palma Chieftains put on a show Monday afternoon, defeating Salinas High 4-1 to complete their season sweep of the Cowboys. With the win, Palma remains firmly in first place, setting the stage for a pivotal matchup later this week.
The Chieftains were led in this game, as Benjamin Alcantara and Eli Dukes each netting two goals. Alcantara opened the scoring early in the first half, finishing a perfect cross from Sebastian Sanchez to give Palma the lead. Moments later, Dukes doubled the advantage with a clinical finish off another Sanchez assist.
Despite a spirited effort from Salinas, who managed to pull one back in the second half, the Chieftains never wavered. Sanchez, the architect of Palma's attack, continued to deliver pinpoint passes, setting up both Alcantara and Dukes for their second goals to seal the win. Sanchez finished the game with an impressive three assists, solidifying his reputation as the team's playmaker.
"This was a complete team effort," said head coach Rico praising the team's execution. "The boys played with intensity and purpose. It's always special to sweep Salinas."
With the victory, Palma retains its top spot in the league standings and extends its momentum heading into a crucial matchup against Watsonville on Wednesday. The Wildcats handed the Chieftains their only league loss earlier this season, and Palma is eager for redemption.
Kickoff for Wednesday's showdown is set for 3:30Â PM at Hartnell College. Fans won't want to miss this battle for league supremacy!
